All grades will be played as Swiss tournaments, with a minimum of 6 rounds.  If after 6 rounds there is no clear winner, a play-off will be run, starting at approximately 2.00 p.m.  We can be reasonably confident of finishing everything, including prizegiving, by 3 p.m.

All games will be 40 minutes, with the adjudicators having the right to ask for a game to continue if a result is likely.

No-one apart from players and officials will be allowed on the floor during rounds.

The adjudicators are top chess players from the Hastings/Havelock North Chess Club, and they have full responsibility for all chess related decisions.  If you have a need to question anything at the tournament, please do so through the desk rather than making a direct approach to the adjudicators.  This will need to be done between rounds when no play is in progress, and any approach to the desk should be made by the nominated representative of the school.

When you register your team, your players will be given numbers and must stay in the same order all day.  If you want to bring a reserve player, that player can be substituted only for the No. 4 player and you will need to notify the desk that you are making a substitution.

Please remember to bring your $30 fee if you have not already paid.  We have bought medals and trophies, and need the fees to cover those, the venue expenses and fees to the National Chess Federation. .

Remember that the winners in each of the three grades will have the right to represent Hawke’s Bay at the National Interschool Teams Chess Tournament in Palmerston North.

Please remember to bring two chess sets for each team you have entered.  As many of the large sets as possible will be provided, but if every team brings chess sets we will be certain of having enough for all the games.

The organising team hopes we are all going to have a wonderful day on Friday, and we look forward to seeing you
