Rules for annual matches for PETE'S BISHOP, as agreed by the Napier and Hastings Chess Clubs, October 2009

  1. A Twice-yearly encounter across 12 boards, any shortfall in numbers to count as a default except that, should either club's financial membership fall below 12, the number of boards could be re-negotiated up to one month before the first round.
  2. The fate of the trophy to be decided on the aggregate scores from both matches. In the event of a tie the trophy to stay with the previous holder.
  3. Each player shall make all his moves within 75 minutes plus 30 seconds added per move on his clock.
  4. Board-one colours to be decided by lot on each occasion, remaining boards then alternating.
  5. A team captain is not to advise the players of his team to make or accept an offer of a draw or to resign during a game.
  6. In each team the players shall be arranged in order of playing strength with the strongest on board one.
  7. Default time is one hour. (Any player who arrives at the chessboard after one hour from start of the session shall lose the game)
