We THE MEMBERS of the Hastings Chess Club and other chess friends, wish to place on record their appreciation of the service you have given to the cause of the grand old game of Chess.
As a Club Member and its Champion for some years, you have always been courteous and approachable to fellow members.
Ever ready to share your Chess knowledge, and punctilious in committee, your enthusiasm and painstaking work in arranging club schedules to interest members generally, has been of great assistance to everyone.
The Chess Column, which you edited for the local paper, has been highly interesting and informative, and of value to the Club and other Chess players.
This year of 1940, we have great pleasure in congratulating you on winning the Frank Mintoft Championship Cup, for the third year in succession, and the cup outright.
Your creditable progress as a provincial representative in N.Z. Chess Congresses we have followed with keen interest.
You are leaving on service with the armed forces, and we wish you the best of good fortune and a speedy return.
